Invasive species are a growing threat to Ontario’s environment and economy. Defined as plants, animals, and microorganisms introduced by human actions beyond their natural distribution, these species endanger ecosystems, economies, and human health.
To combat this, the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) launched the Invading Species Awareness Program (ISAP) in 1992. The program aims to educate the public about aquatic and terrestrial invasive species, address the pathways of their introduction and spread, and monitor new invaders within Ontario. The ISAP is a key educational and conservation initiative by the OFAH.
To learn more about invading species and what you can do to identify, report, and mitigate them, visit the full ISAP website at www.invadingspecies.com.
You can report an invasive species by calling the Invading Species Hotline at 1-800-563-7711 or visiting www.eddmaps.org/ontario.
