Eco-Innovation Challenge

Students will explore how technological innovation can support conservation and sustainability, and will develop, explore and actualize products with this goal of sustainability and conservation.

Technological Education (2024)
Grade 9, Technology and the Skilled Trades

  • A2.3 describe properties and characteristics, including sustainability, of materials, and justify the selection of the materials and other resources they are using in the creation of products and/or services
  • A3.1 identify challenges they encounter in the process of developing their projects and apply critical thinking skills to address these challenges
  • B1.2 analyze how the development and application of technologies are impacted by legal, ethical, social, economic, and environmental considerations

Time to complete: 2-3 class periods (75 min each)
Materials: Recycled materials (e.g., card-board, plastic bottles, fabric scraps), Craft materials: glue, tape, scissors, markers, rulers, etc., Prototyping tools: string, wire, hot glue guns (optional), Access to computers/tablets for research and digital design, Graphic organizer or design journal sheets
Location: Classroom
Group size: Groups of 2-3 students
