Land Use and Conservation in Canadian Geography – Ontario’s Greenbelt

Students will learn to analyze land use patterns and conservation efforts in urban, rural, and natural environments, particularly in relation to industrial and housing development.

  • B1.1 Analyze environmental, economic, social, and political implications of different ideas and beliefs about the value of Canada’s natural environment.
  • B1.2 Analyze interrelationships be-tween Canada’s physical characteristics and various human activities that they support.
  • E2.1 assess the impact of urban growth on natural systems

Time to complete: 90-140 minutes
Materials: Printed/Digital Maps of Ontario, Student Handouts: Case Study: Ontario Greenbelt, Debate Role Sheets, Exit Ticket, Projector/Screen for video, Markers, chart paper, Access to internet for student research
